Destruction Policy

The University is committed to compliance with all state and federal laws and regulations. In order to achieve compliance with such standards and practices, it is the policy of the University to destroy records that have reached the end of their mandatory retention period or are no longer necessary for business operations. Records of academic research and data may be governed by additional policies and regulations.

  • The Records Management Office (RMO) will generate a list of all records stored in the campus records facility annually that have met their retention period.
  • The list will be sent to the department head/main contact to authorize destruction.
  • The list will be returned to RMO for those boxes to be verified and destroyed.
  • Once the records have been destroyed, a signed copy of the list by both the department head and Records Manager will be maintained on file.
